Support build
I've run completely solo so my build is a sos build. I'm thinking about maybe joining a guild or some real hunt parties.... should I maintain sos or is their a build you switch to when joining a real group ? Suggestions pls ? I've already been told splinter weapon should be on the bar... anything else ? I don't want to come off like a total noob in a group...

SoS is good but you should be able to run alternatives so you're not one of those annoying people who is prepared to spend hours spamming 'omg I'M RUNNING SOS YOU CHANGE' in team chat because you aren't capable of doing anything that requires mental capacity. Some alternatives (not that they're much harder to play, but whatever):
*SoGM (just throw in the offensive comm spirits, Armor of Unfeeling, and Boon of Creation).
*ST (usually overkill and better suited on a hero; BoC, AoU, ST, Union, Displacement, Shelter, and utility/hard rez).
*That Resto bar Chthon posted a couple of weeks ago is interesting and probably quite effective but I doubt PuGs will accept it.
Having some PvE skills like Great Dwarf Weapon and some utility like smites is also useful.
If you post your bar we can help more.

I love ST tbh.
SoGM is good on the attack side.

I've seen others use similar in PUGs and I've used it in PUGs myself. No complaints. The build (at least what I used) is this if the OP hasn't seen it.

If you wanted to run a more "monkish" restoration bar, Spirit Light Weapon and xinrai's weapon are effective options. Combine them with a few single target heals (there are some really good ones to choose from) and some support (like PwK, life, or rejuv for party healing or pure was mii something for condition removal). Top it off with your energy management of choice (gole, selfless spirit, or an inspiration spell), and you can function effectively as a healer. I personally havn't tried the above-mentioned restoration bar, and I will have to give it a try. I can tell you, however, that a restoration bar like the one i mentioned above works pretty well (I have found it to be just as effective as a HB monk).

I'm not a fan of recuperation. I feel for 25 energy, unless you are running a MM that it is too expensive to be worthwhile. Recovery is better in places with conditions but MB&S with an SoS on the team makes it less useful. Granted on Cuilan's bar you only need to refresh it but it is still 25 energy roughly every 45 seconds.

A red bar resto is better served running SC rather than SLS or xinrae imo. WoW is so much more useful than either of them in general PvE and SC means energy is rarely a problem unless you're team are really doing it wrong. Just copypasta the HA bar, swap dps & two from wos/resilient/pwk for mbas/sl/rejuv.
And you still have free slot to take hex removal/pve skill/whatever.

SC is a good elite for restorers as well, Iv got a build for it. The thing is that I usually have multiple copies of Aegis, so WoW isnt all that useful in my parties. I guess it would be a good option if you didnt have that Aegis support in your party though.

On the topic of SoS, since it has superb bar compression you can get away with utility in the other slots.
12+1+2 (or 12+1+1) channeling
6+1 Spawning
11+1 Restor
1 SoS
2 Bloodsong / Splinter Weapon
3 Vampirism
4 Painful Bond
5 Spirit siphon
6 Mend Body and Soul
7 Spirit Light / Flesh of My Flesh
8 Summon Spirits
OR
12+1+2 (or 12+1+1) channeling
6+1 Spawning
11+1 Communing
1 SoS
2 Great Dwarf Weapon
3 Disenchantment/Anguish (Dissonance but it's expensive) *
4 Painful Bond
5 Spirit siphon
6 Shadowsong*
7 Armor of Unfeeling
8 Summon Spirits
* As an aside, if you run both channeling and communing, make sure you don't use the same spirits as someone else.
